She worked as an associate in An American Place, a restaurant located in the city of New York for a year. Guarnaschelli began her career in cooking in the earlier years, while helping her mom try recipes when she was editing her books at her home. While working for Larry Forgione, she worked at several restaurants including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot in New York France Los Angeles. She was eventually appointed the executive chef of Butter. Guarnaschelli competed in 2007 Farmers Market Battle, a segment of Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she faced Cat Cora. In the years since, she's participated on the show as a guest judge and participated in The Next Iron Chef Season Four in 2011, when she finished third. She also competed with Food Network's Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast episode but was eliminated from the contest. The fourth season of The Next Iron Chef, she was hired as a sous chef for Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian. In 2008, she became the host of Food Network's The Cooking Loft with Alex Guarnaschelli where she teaches a small group of students in the art of teaching them to reimagine classic recipes.
